Lasers printers have traditionally been out of the price reach for a lot of computer users. Gone are those days, thanks inpart to Samsungs new line of low cost laser printers. Today we take a look at one of these printers called the ML-1640 Mono Laser printer.
This no frills black and white printer is designed to do one thing, print. There's no scanning or photocoping option like some higher end laser printers. It does one thing and it does it well.
Styling wise, Samsung hasn't skimped on that. The unit is a nice matt black that would fit in nicely with any modern computer setup. There will be no worries from users when they have to decide where to put the unit too. The ML-1640 has a compact design that will not take up a lot of space.
The ML-1640 connects to the computer via a USB 2.0 interface. Installation and setup are a breeze with Samsung's included software and driver disk, so you should be up and running in no time.
Performance wise, the ML-1640 is able to clocking in at 16 ppm for A4 and 17 ppm for letter size, and maximum printing resolution is 1200x600dpi. The printer's sheet cassette capacity is 150 in and 100 sheets out.
To get you started the ML-1640 comes with a starter cartridge with a capacity of 700 pages with this device, which is about half of capacity of a standard toner cartridge. A full sized toner cartridge goes for about the same price as the ML-1640.
All in all the ML-1640 is a very economically priced laser printer. With it's fast printing and quality results, this printer is perfect for all who are on a budget. Canadian prices vary from 60$-90$.
