Included with YP-K5 is a built in FM tuner. The headphones have to be plugged in for the FM tuner to work, because it uses the headphones as an antenna.
Another feature includes an alarm clock which has three different alarm sounds, or you can wake up to a selected MP3 song.
It has multiple alarm capabilities and doesn't require the player to be on for the alarm function to work. A snooze feature is also available.
A photo viewer is also available, although the image quality is a bit fuzzy.
One Strange thing is the USB cord provided with the unit is proprietary. What this means is you can only use the supplied cord to transfer media files to the player. It's an odd choice compared to a standard Camera/MP3 player USB cable.
As for the user interface, the YP-K5 sports a slick touch screen system. Navigation is extremely easy and intuitive. Menus are smooth and nicely animated. The interface surface does pickup finger prints quite easily though.
The most unique thing about this player is the slide out speakers. The sliding mechanism works great and is very smooth. The speakers sound fairly good despite their diminutive size, and actually sound bigger than they actually are. The sound volume from the speakers is quite adequate for listening in a small room or area.
Audio enhancement options are much more limited than previous Samsung MP3 players. A bass booster, a vocal booster, a 3D sound option, and a concert hall setting that adds reverb is the only options available. It has no custom equalizer to speak of.
The YP-K5 is a very innovative designed MP3 player. With its slide out speakers and alarm, it would be perfect for those who travel frequently.
