Above you can see a picture of the player with its transparent USB cap glowing blue. This completely cosmetic feature
activates every time a button is pressed. To conserve battery power or if you don't particularly like the glowing effect, there is an option to deactivate the LED light.
The transparent USB cap also has a small hole in it so a lanyard can be attached. Too bad Samsung doesn't include a lanyard with player though. One problem with this lanyard design is the possibility of losing the player altogether, leaving you with just the USB cap dangling from the lanyard. The lanyard attachment would have been better off attached to the player itself.
The player also can enhance your music with Samsung's DNSe surround settings.
With DNSe, Samsung’s proprietary Digital Natural Sound engine technology, the YP-U2 offers virtual surround sound. This guarantees great volume, no distortion, and a more natural and accurate higher quality sound, even with just two small speakers. In addition, 5 modes of Preset EQ allow you to customize the sound experience to suit the style of music. These advanced music functions allow you to enjoy the same acoustic wow that you would hear from your home stereo.
Further audio tweaking can be had by using the user 9 band Equalizer or one of the EQ presets such as Classic, Rock or Jazz.
Included with player is Samsung's Media Studio, which allows you to browse and listen to your music collection. Media Studio is not required to import your music to the player, instead one only has to drag and drop files from window explorer to the player. Media files aren't the only thing you can drag and drop to the unit. You can also use it a storage device for other files.
Testing:
Design:
As mention before, the 4 way direction pad makes navigation a breeze. The LCD screen is quite clear, even in low light conditions. One grip about the design though, is the placement of the headphone jack that's positioned awkwardly on the side of player instead of at the end of it. This makes it awkward to put the player in a pocket while listening to music.
Music:
The YP-U2 is nice player and provides good quality play back. The addition of the DNSe sound enhancement really is what makes this player shine. It was quite surprising to hear the huge sound that this little player could achieve.
Record:
The voice recording feature works pretty well. If you wanted to go crazy with leaving yourself messages you could fill the whole player with up to 68 hrs of recordings if the unit was empty.
The YP-U2 MP3 player is the way to go if you're on a budget and looking for a tiny player with a large capacity. With it's DNSe surround enhancements, rechargable battery and priced around 70-80 US dollars, it's a sure winner.
Pros:
-Small Size
-1 GB capacity
-Rechargeable battery built in
-FM radio
-Drag and Drop importing of songs
-Voice recorder
