Some say bigger is better. When it comes to mouse pads it seems Xtrac also believes so. Today we take a look at one of the biggest mouse pads that we've ever come across.
The Xtrac Ripper XXL is a cloth mouse mat with dimensions of 36" wide x 18"! As you can see from the picture above this is more than a mouse pad, it's a complete mousing surface. The concept is the Ripper XXL will cover the area underneath your keyboard, mouse and monitor. This would effectively allow the top of your computer desk to become a mousing surface.
The Ripper XXL has a rubber backing which effectively prevents the mousing surface from sliding around. The Ripper XXL is soft and comfortable and doesn't sacrifice durability to do so. The mat also has fray resistant edges.
As an added bonus, Xtrac also includes their Mad Tape. Mad Tape is special tape that is used to covers the bottom of your mouse feet. The tape is made with a mesh backing for longevity and durability, and then coated it with Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) for superior performance. XTracPads Mad Tape™ also helps prolong the life of your mouse pad by reducing friction.
Testing:
To put the mat through its paces we played various first person shooters such as Fear, Unreal Tournament 2004, etc over a period of a week.
The Ripper has a nice comfortable feel to it. The mat has a good 'gliding feel', though we have used other pads with a slicker feel. Because of the huge surface there's no chance of pushing the mouse off of the pad like other regular sized pads.
Those of you with a desk that has a pull out keyboard/mouse drawer may find that the mat is a little too big. Though, thanks to the flexibility of the mat you can fold the mat under to fit.
All in all the Xtrac Ripper XXL covers it all...literally. With its durable construction, comfort, and design it sure to be a hit with gamers.
