Moving to the back of the unit we have from left to right, the USB port, power supply input and the on/off switch. The drive also has holes on the back for ventilation.

To test the performance of the WriteMaster SE-W164 External DVD writer we tested it with Sisoft Sandra's Cd-Rom/DVD Benchmark test.

Testing:

Test System:

Processor: AMD XP 2500+ Mobile Barton processor (Overclocked to XP 3400+)
Motherboard: Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev 2.0
Memory: Corsair PC3200 XMS 1024 MEGS
HDD: Western Digital 80 gig 8 meg cache harddrive.
Video: Power Color 9600 Pro 256 megs

Well from the results the WriteMaster SE-W164 performed rather well. Actually better than some internal DVD writers I've seen.

During operation the unit was very quiet and didn't retain much heat. The vertical stand is a life saver when it comes to taking up desk space on a cluttered desk like mine.

The WriteMaster SE-W164 External DVD writer is a great addition to anyone who hasn't got the internal space to add a DVD writer. Plus with the wide variety formats of media the unit can use, you just can't lose.

Pros:
-Good Performance
-Portable
-Burns large capicity 8.5 gig Disks
-Light weight
-Can be used Horizontally or Vertically

Cons:
-
