Here we have a closer look at the Digital SoundTouch Control Center. From here you can control the volume, levels and turn the unit on and off. There are also buttons to mute the sound and choose from a choice of effects.
The effects consist of 6 Channel direct (typical surround sound setup), Stereo for two speakers and subwoofer, Stereo X2 which send the stereo signal to all four satellite speakers instead two, Dolby Prologic 2 Music for music, and Dolby Prologic 2 Movie for obviously movies.
On the bottom of the control center are two input jacks one is for headphones and the other is for use with a portable audio player.
The control center is also where you can choose what type of audio connection to the Z680 you have. You have three choices: Direct (Analog), Optical, and Coax Digital (SPDIF).
When it came to testing we tried all three connection types' analog, digital coax, and digital optical. We used a computer with a surround sound 5.1 capable sound card with analog and digital Coax connections, and a DVD player that had all three connection types.
The sound quality of the Z680 is spectacular even with the analog connections. The sound is rich and the bass just kicks ass. When we upped the signal quality to digital, the sound got even better and cleaner. Music, movies and gaming sounded better than ever.
If you're looking for a better speaker system to truly take advantage of today's audio technology we recommend you check out Logitech's Z680 Surround Sound Speakers. One warning though, once you go digital you'll never go back. :)
