On the center of the Xtreme Files F1 are three buttons. Going clockwise you have the Data Backup button for selective file storage, the restore button to restore files from the Xtreme back to your computer, and the coolest feature in my opinion the OS Backup button capable of backing up your operating systems full partition.
To use the Xtreme Files backup and restore options some software has to be installed first. You can how ever use the unit like any other external drive and drag and drop files from the computer to the units designated drive letter in explorer.
Above we have a screen shot of options available when you press the Data Backup button. You have the option of 'Selective Files' which allows you to pick and choose which folders and files to backup to the unit. The second selection 'All Files' as it suggests backs up all your files to the Xtreme files F1-B except for Windows and its associated files.
Next up we have the 'Restore' button which gives the user the option of restoring a copy of your backed up operating system, or files. The Xtreme Files F1 is capable of storing two OS backups, the first one ever made, and latest one made. If you choose to backup your OS three or more times the unit will copy over the second backup the 'Latest OS Backup'.
The restore OS option gives you the choice of restoring your first ever OS backup or a version of the latest backup.
That brings us to the 'OS Backup' button which makes a complete copy of your OS's partition. Since windows can't back itself under its own system, the computer has to be rebooted into DOS to complete the backup.
So now you have your operating system and the partition it's on backed up, now what? Well if your ever have problems with your computer you can always restore your backed up copy right over the one on your computer.
But what if you can't even boot into windows because of a nasty virus, or a crash? Well the Xtreme Files F1-B has you covered!
All that's required is to boot your system with the Xtreme Files Software CD that doubles as a rescue disk.
The computer at this point will restore the 'original backup' on the Xtreme files drive to the computers hard disk.
If you want to use a new hard drive you can use the above procedure to put a copy of the backed up OS on the new hard drive. The system will also format the new hard drive automatically if it isn't.
The Xtreme Files F1-B is one of the easiest and handiest backup solutions we've seen to date. Add in its good looks, portability, and the different hard disk sizes available this makes this one a winner!
