Thermaltake's Xray

Company: Thermaltake.com
Product: Cup holder/Cigarette lighter

I'd like to thank Nikki of thermaltake for providing us with the X-Ray for review.

Every once in a while you come across a mod that makes you stop and take a second look. Today, it’s the Thermaltake Xray Cigarette Lighter / Cup Holder. Simply put, if you have a free 5.35 bay, you can now add a cigarette lighter and cup holder to the front of your computer.

Made of aluminium and plastic, it keeps with the whole car dash theme that was first seen with Thermaltake’s Hardcano 12. So, since Thermaltake kindly sent us our very own Xray to test out, let’ see how it does.

Installation: Installation of the Xray is a snap. Put the Xray into the 5.25 bay, plug in the 12 volt molex connector, and screw it into place and your done. No fuss, no muss. With the black and silver colour scheme, it looks pretty nice in the front of a case. It would probably match very well with a black case but the test case was blue and silver and it still looked slick.

Features:

The Xray is exactly what it looks like, a cigarette lighter with a cup holder that ejects at the push of a button. Now, when i saw that tray eject, i admit i had some doubts about it’s ability to hold a can or bottle, but after testing it with different sized containers I have to admit it held up well.

My one fear is that I’m going to end up with some of my drink inside my computer. I have tested this by shaking the desk, computer and simulating someone bumping the tray itself and nothing happened but I still feel that this is an accident waiting to happen. My solution was to push the case away from the edge of the desk, thereby ensuring that no one would accidentally hit the tray while walking by. Also, remember that cold drinks sweat so be sure to dry out the tray before pushing it back into your box. While it’s not a lot of water, any little bit inside of a computer is just asking for trouble.
