Above we have a shot of the monitors side view and as you can see the unit has a fairly thin profile. The monitor itself is about 2 3/8 inches wide and the base is 7 1/2 inches wide and provides a lot more room on your desk than a standard 17" CRT monitor. As for how heavy the unit is, it weighs in at 9.6 pounds.
This particular LCD monitor has a built in power supply so no external power adapter is needed. Installation is a matter of plugging in the power cord to an outlet and connecting the VGA video cord between the computers videocard and the monitor.
Included with the monitor is a driver cd that also includes Samsungs MagicTune™ and MagicBright™ software.
MagicTune optimizes the monitor to the user’s preferences and environment by adjusting the brightness, colour, and image size. MagicBright on the other hand offers three different types of brightness modes optimized for each user.
We tested the 710N with everything from regular daily use (web browsing, graphics applications, word, etc.) to gaming with first person shooters like Starwars Battlefront, FarCry, and Doom 3.
The display is crisp and the colors are vibrant. Also the 710N is one of the brightest LCDs we've seen.
As for gaming, when the monitor is set to a refresh rate of 75hz there's virtually no ghosting while playing games. The quick 12ms response time really shined here.
If you're looking for a good performing and reasonably priced replacement for your CRT monitor that won't take up much desk space you should check the Samsung SyncMaster 710N.
Pros:
-Great looking
-12ms response time
-Space Saving/More Desktop Space
-reasonably priced
-Good for gaming
