Located on the front of the unit we find the on/off switch, the power indicator LED, and the fan speed controller.
The fans are very quiet and can barely be heard even on high speed.
Placing a hand near the side vents you can actually feel some of the hot air being dragged away from the laptop went it's on high speed. When the fans are slowed down to low you can just barely feel any air thus making the fan controller kind of useless.
Since the fans are so quiet on high speed i would of liked to have seen some more powerful fans used instead.
So the main question is, does a laptop really need extra cooling? In my opinion probably not. My laptop uses a mobile Athlon that throttles the mhz down when the processor is not completely being taxed and keeps the notebook cooler as well as saving on battery life. But, if you live where the temperature is very hot, a notebook cooler probably does make sense.
The other thing to consider is do you want to carry around one more thing with your laptop and its accessories?
All in all the NP-101 notebook pad would be best geared toward those of us who live in hotter areas.
Pros:
- USB powered
- Nice Looking
- 4 fans
Cons:
- Fans could be stronger
- Another thing to carry around with your laptop
- Not completely necessary
