The software included is called Logitech's image studio. It has six different applications to manage and create photos.
The first is named 'create pictures and video' which allows you to click a button to either take a photo or a video clip from the webcam.
The second is 'create animations' that allows you to create time lapsed video or stop motion video for simple animation.
The third is a fun little app called 'Motion Detection' which allows the webcam to automatically take pictures when something moves in front of it.
Next we have 'Create a Webcam' which is basically a trial of Spotlife webcam service. You 15 days free then you have to pay.
Why didn't they just have an application to send photos to your own website? Money i guess. :)
Next up is 'Broadcast live' which allows you to stream live video on the net like a TV show. This feature is also a Spotlife trial service.
Lastly something actually useful 'look at my gallery'. Here you can view your pictures, delete the ones you want, create photo albums, print pictures and send them by email attachment.
Next we have a shot of the back of the webcam/camera. It has a Monochrome liquid crystal display to select the various options the camera has. The buttons in a clockwise motion starting from the top are: On/Off, Photo/Video selector, Self-timer, delete image, And flash on/off.
Moving to the bottom of the unit we find a tripod socket, and where the batteries go.
The pictures were taken at the highest resolution possible 640 by 480. The pictures where also converted with the 'upscale software' mode to give them 1.3 megalpixels of resolution.
Well what can i say? The upscaling doesn't really do a good job. It almost looks like some one took a 640 by 480 picture and just increased the size by 200 percent.
The photos at 640 by 480 are of typical quality for a camera of this price. So if your looking for really good quality webcam that take true 1.3 megapixel pictures and video i'd suggest getting the logitech Quickcam pro 4000 though it will cost you more. If you just need a reliable webcam that's also a digital camera at a good price you can't go wrong with the Clicksmart 420.
Pros:
- Digital camera and webcam
- 8 meg memory
- Built in flash
- Tripod Socket
Cons:
- 1.3 megapixel Upscale software doesn't really work
- Trial service application software
