Bytecc's Hotdrive 2.5" Mobile Hard Drive

Company: Bytecc USA

Product: External Hard Drive Enclosure

I'd like to thank Steven of Bytecc for providing us with the Hotdrive 2.5" Mobile Hard Drive for review.

Most USB flash drives on the market max out at 1 to 2 gigabytes, but what if you need more storage space? You could buy two flash drives but there is another alternative. For less than the price of two 1 or 2 gig flash drives you could get a mobile hard drive with an external enclosure. Today we take a look at one such enclosure from Bytecc, their Hotdrive 2.5" Mobile Hard Drive.

The HotDrive comes complete with Driver CD for windows 98, USB cord, Anti-shock patch, leather case and the enclosure.

The Hotdrive is plug and play and requires no drivers unless you are using windows 98. You simply plug in the USB cable to the unit to a computer and start transferring files.

The HotDrive enclosure is made of aluminum and has a silver paint finish applied to it. The dimensions of this little case are 80 x 15 x143 mm with a height less than 9.5mm. The top of the unit has a hard drive indicator LED to show when the device is in use.

As for performance the unit uses USB 2.0 which will give the Hotdrive transfer speeds of up to 480 Mbps.

The Hotdrive is powered from a PC's USB port and no external power is necessary, though a 5 volt power adapter port is available.
