I'd like to thank Danny of softtrading.info for providing us with the Steelpad 4S for review.
Today we take a look at another high end mouse pad from Steelpad the Steelpad S4.
The Steelpad 4S is made of specially treated aluminum to provide comfort and traction. It has also been hardened to ensure durability as well as being fiber polished.
The pad is larger than most mousing surfaces measuring in at a Length 290 mm - Width 257 mm - Thickness 3.5 mm.
A side note to Logitech Optical mice users the pad does not work with them other than the MX Series.
To help the pad reach its ultimate slippery potential, a strip of teflon tape is provided to attach to the feet on the bottom of your mouse.
TESTING
To put the pad through its paces i played various first person shooters such as Max Payne, Unreal 2003, etc over a period of a few days.
The steelpad 4S does feel smoother and slicker that a regular mouse pad and it made gaming all that much more pleasant.
There were a few things that bugged me about the Steelpad S4. For one it's got a noisy scraping sound when you move the mouse, even with the teflon tape on the mouse feet.
The other thing was the price it goes for: DKK 299,00 (EUR 40,04/ USD 46,28) + shipping. A little high in my opinion.
An the last complaint is after a while small pools of sweat appear on the surface. On top of the gross factor, it inhibits the optical mouse laser.
Pros:
-Big surface
-slippery surface
Cons:
- Noisy
- Cost
-Makes little pools of sweat on the surface
