Above we have the circuit board that converts the ide hard drive to USB 2.0. All the plugs and connections are solidly soldered to the board.
Installation is pretty straight forward. The Circuit board plugs into the hard drive using the ide and molex plug-ins.
Next thing to do is slide on the side pieces.
Then it's a simple matter of stuffing the hard drive into the enclosure and screwing on the back plate with the 4 provided screws.
The Back of the unit has an on/off switch, power plug-in and the USB plug-in. The empty side looks like a good place for some air holes but there are none. :)
The unit was immediately recognized when i plugged it into the computer. Windows did its thing and i checked just to be sure i had an extra drive letter appear in explorer and of course there was one.
Transfer rates were fast between the computer and the unit thanks to USB 2.0.
After a few hours of being on, the enclosure was quite warm to the touch. According to the manufacturers website the aluminum enclosure will cool down the 3.5" HDD easily. I would have still liked to see some ventilation holes.
The unit is quite slick looking and the size is small enough to be portable and does not taking up to much valuable desk space. This might be what you're looking for if flash drives just won't do the job.
Pros:
-USB 2.0
-Small size
-Nice looking
-Stand to use it on it's side
Cons:
-The unit get's hot after prolonged periods of time.
