The cnps7000a-cu has got to be the biggest heatsink i've ever seen and weighs in at 773 grams! For a heavy weight like this the heatsink has to be mounted to the motherboard.
Above is the fan controller, though i don't think this heatsink needs it because even on high the fan is very quiet.
As for the installation, i chose to install it on my A7N8X deluxe motherboard. After reading the instructions i found out that i had to mount the screws for the mounting hardware from underneath my motherboard! Ugh! So after 20 minutes of taking out my motherboard, pci cards and what have you the installation was done.
Test System
AMD XP 2600+ 333 MHz (AIUHB)
Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev 2.0
Corsair PC2700 XMS 512 MEGS
Beantech igloo 7 aluminum case
Maxtor Diamond 9 30 gig harddrive.
To calculate the idle temperatures, I gave the computer 10 minutes on its own before recording the temperature down. Next, using Sandra burn in wizard I allowed it to run 30 minutes and recorded the readings.
I will be comparing the heatsink to a SLK-800 heatsink with a Vantec tornado fan with a speed controller.
Well from the results i'm quite pleased. The CNPS7000A-cu beat out my beloved SLK-800/Tornado combo. All the work of taking out my motherboard was well worth the effort. This Heatsink is silent and cool!
Pros:
- 92 mm fan!
- All copper
- Speed controller
- Excellent Cooling
Cons:
-You have to remove the motherboard out of the case to install the mounting clip for athlon and duron processors.
