On the back of the unit you have your power supply socket, USB socket, Firewire socket, on/off switch, and even an audio plug-in. To keep the heat out of the enclosure, a small 40mm fan is used to draw out the heat.
We decided to test the CD-510 out with a Maxtor Diamond Max 30 gig 7200rpm hard drive. Installation is easy and if you ever installed a hard drive it's pretty intuitive. One note though, before you put a hard drive in the Cd-510 it has to be formatted.
Installation consists of plugin in the drive cable and the power Molex. Next, the hard drive is fastened down to the tray. And finally the tray is slid into the enclosure and fastens by way of the two thumb screws on the sides.
After turning the power switch on, windows 2000 recognized the drive with no problems. Since i was using USB 2.0, transfer speeds to and from the computer were quite fast.
All in all the CD-510 Combo is a cool looking and versatile enclosure that should suit all you external hard drive or CDrom needs.
Pros:
-USB 2.0 or Firewire
-HDD or CDROM
-cooling fan
-Audio out
