Here i've removed the old thermal paste.
The copper base was fairly smooth and had minimal micro scratches on it. This is nothing that a little thermal grease can't handle.
Here's a picture of the Thermaltake fan speed controller. It installs easily in an unused pci slot.
To use the fan speed controller, just plug the fan in to the fan speed controller. Then plug the yellow wired plug to your cpu power slot on the motherboard, and finally plug the 4 pin molex to your power supply. The settings low, med, and high provide 6, 9 and 12 volts respectively to the fan.
While i was installing the heatsink it came extremely close to one of the capacitors on the motherboard. . Definitely measure the dimensions of your cpu area to make sure you have enough room to install it.
Testing:
Test System
AMD XP 2600+ 333 MHz (AIUHB)
Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev 2.0
Corsair PC2700 XMS 512 MEGS
Beantech igloo 7 aluminum case
Maxtor Diamond 9 30 gig harddrive.
To calculate the idle temperatures, I gave each setting 10 minutes before recording the temperature down.
Next, using Sandra burn in wizard I allowed it to run 30 minutes on each setting.
Well according to the results the Tr2-M2 is quite a capable performer. And with the ability to choose the fan speed
it's great for setting up a quiet computer system.
Pros:
- Fan speed controller
- Copper base
- Good retention clip
- TMD fan
