The fan is attached to the heatsink by way of wire clips. You simply slide the clips into the various clip holes on the heatsink, according to what size fan you plan to use. This is an innovative way of attaching the fan, allowing for easy installation and removal.
To test the SLK-800 I chose the Vantec Tornado fan connected to a Thermaltake 3 speed switch. This way I could simulate different strength fans. The settings low, medium and high (6,9, and 12 volts) give us the following:
Low 42 cfm
Medium 63 cfm
High 84 cfm
Test System
AMD XP 2600+ 333 MHz (AIUHB)
Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev 2.0
Corsair PC2700 XMS 512 MEGS
Beantech igloo 7 aluminum case
Maxtor Diamond 9 30 gig harddrive.
To calculate the idle temperatures, I gave each setting 10 minutes before recording the temperature down.
Next, using Sandra burn in wizard I allowed it to run 30 minutes on each setting. As you can see in the included chart there’s a 2 degree C difference between settings.
I have to say the SLK-800 is the best heatsink I’ve ever used. I was quite pleased with its performance and quality. It surpasses other heatsinks I’ve used by as much as 10 degrees C! A definite winner.
Pros:
-Extreme cooling
-All Copper
-Can use different size fans
-Good retention clip
