If you want to watch movies on your computer your going to need a DVD drive.
So Today we're taking a look at what liteon has to offer with their XJ-HD166S 16x DVD Drive.
The drive sports on the front a headphone jack, volume control, LED and the audio play/skip and stop/eject buttons. On the rear of the drive you have the usual IDE interface, power connection and analog audio output connector. Optionally you can get this DVD drive in either beige or black face plates.
Installation of the Liteon drive was a snap. After plugging in the power connector and the ide ribbon, i enabled the drive in my Bios. Windows recognized the drive immediately and with no problems.
When i played a movie with the DVD drive it hardly made any noise which is a plus. There was some whirling noise though when it's was used to retrieve data off of a CD. The picture quality was smooth and not choppy at all.

To test the unit out i Used SiSoftware's Sandra to benchmark the Liteon DVD Drive.
Using a DVD these are the results i got.
Here's the results using a CD with data on it.
As you can see from the above results, the drive performs slower than the manufacturer's specifications.
None the less the DVD play back is very good and the price can't be beat.
Pros:
- Affordable.
- Available in beige and black face plates.
