I’d like to thank Junpei of Thermo-Link for providing us with the Avalanche for review.
If your looking for a quiet heatsink fan combo with good performance
AVC's Avalanche is a nice balance of low fan noise and good cooling.
The avalanche is of all aluminum construction with a copper insert on the bottom and features a 60mm fan on top.
The fan with it's tailed 3-pin molex connector is rated to blow 19 CFM of air onto the heat sink.
To attach the heat sink to the motherboard is a well designed 3 lug retention clip. The clip holds onto a flat head
screw driver firmly without fear of it slipping off and gouging the motherboard.
The copper core had a piece of thermal tape attached to it when we recieved it. We planned to use Arctic Silver instead so this was the first thing that had to go before we tested it.
SPECIFICATIONS:
AMD Athlon 1.4GHz
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
AMD All Duron
60 x 60 x 15 mm
Fan Speed 4500 rpm
Air Flow 19 CFM
Heatsink Material AL-6063 T5
Heatsink Dimension 77.5 x 60 x 42 mm
Rated Voltage 12V DC
Test System
AMD XP 2600+ 333 MHz (AIUHB)
Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev 2.0
Corsair PC2700 XMS 512 MEGS
Beantech igloo 7 aluminum case
Maxtor Diamond 9 30 gig harddrive.
To test the Avalanche I let the computer stand idle for ten minutes to record the idle temperatures.
For the load temperatures i used Sandra's burn in wizard for 30 minutes and recorded the highest temperature achieved.
For comparison i posted some results of the same test for a stock AMD cooler and Spire-Cooler's SkiveStream.
The results were quite good with an idle temperature of 42 and a load temperature of 52. That's a 10 degree idle and 7 degree load improvement over a stock heatsink.
Pros:
- Good air flow to noise ratio
- Good cooling
- Copper core
- Good retention clip
