To familiarize myself with the game, I fired up the tutorial. There the tutorial features a typical scenario with a nice voice over that instructs you on how to use all the commands and concepts you would need to play the game.
Next I tried the single player game option.
Within minutes of playing the game I was easily addicted to it. I was building houses here; training troops there and was having a good time of it. Every once and a while the computers AI player would come over and attack and I would have to retaliate all in good fun.
After awhile my civilization was growing, and I was granted favors from the gods like the ability to call a meteor storm to smite my enemies. The problem with these god powers though, is you only get to use them once in the game. I was rather hoping to use them again some time.
As my civilization went up the technology tree, discovering new ways to fortify my city walls or discovering a new way to mine gold I suddenly hit the limit of gaining technology. I was surprised how small the technology tree was in this game.
I was used to previous games like Civilization 3 and Empire Earth with their huge amount of things to discover.
I was not even half way through the game and I hit the limit.
So this basically left me with constructing new buildings, training troops, and attacking the enemy.
All in all, Age mythology is an okay strategy game. The Mythology theme is well incorporated into the game and does breathe new life into the Age of Empires line.
