Stealthing a Drive. January 2nd 2003

When painting your cdrom, dvd-rom, or cdrw is out of the question, consider steathing your drives instead. Stealthing a drive is done by hiding your cdrom with a drive bay cover. Here are things you'll need.

-a drivebay plate
-funtac, poster gum.

First thing to do is to carefully take your cdrom front cover off. There should be some small tabs located around the drive. You will need to push all of these in, and pull a little on the drive plate. You can put the outer part of the cover away. You only need the cdrom button and the center part that comes out of the drive when it's open.
The next thing that needs to be done for stealthing a drive is to remove the tabs from the side of the cover plate. These tabs are used to hold the plate in place on the case.

Next you will need to place a strip of the funtac that matches the length of the drives "tray face plate".

Once you have added enough funtac allow the cases cover plate to stick to the drive, it is time to work on that button. Added a chunk of funtac to the front of the button, and fix it to the face plate. Try to line it up with the button on the drive.

Once that is completed, your almost done. Now you just need to stick that case cover plate onto that drive. To make sure it is mounted straight, I recommend sliding the drive into the case, then sticking the cover plate to the drive.
