Fan placement, is crucial to keeping a computer case cool. This little tutorial will give you
the ideal minimum fan setup for your computer case. Refer to the picture below. The basic idea is that hot air rises. With that knowledge, all exhaust fans(fans blowing air out of the case) should be located at the top of your case to rid the excess heat. Your power supply usually does this, but some of the old power supplies would
blow air in. If yours blows air in, i suggest flipping the fan around. All though this is sufficient for un-overclocked computers, it won't do for one that is overclocked.
Placing an exhaust fan before your power supply(check picture), blowing up out of the case is ideal. i suggest a 80mm to a 120mm fan.
Now what you want to do to really cool things off, is to get some much needed cool air into your case.
You can do this by installing a fan blowing air into the case at the bottom front of your computer. Fan size? I suggest a 120mm but you could use a 80mm or 92mm or 2 of fans instead.
An optional fan to put in your case, is placed below your power supply blowing out.
Now what about CFM's? How much air to exhaust and air to pump into the case? I use this configuration.
Use equal or more cfm's(cubic feet per minute) of fans exhausting out, than air going in.
This is a basic setup. Some overclockers add fans to the side panels to blow air onto the motherboard, ram and video card.
Happy case modding!
